The French Embassy in Beirut on Sunday released the joint statement on the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, published by the Elysee Palace this afternoon.
The press release states: “Building on the solid relations of friendship and cooperation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and France, President Emmanuel Macron visited the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on December 4, 2021. The President of the Republic French was received by His Highness, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, at the Royal Peace Palace in Jeddah. They had official talks, during which they reviewed the historical and strategic relations between the Saudi kingdom and France in all fields. They stressed the importance of strengthening joint action and pushing bilateral relations towards closer and constructive cooperation based on trust and common interests to promote bilateral strategic partnership towards new and promising horizons.
“The two parties welcomed the positive and fruitful results obtained since the visit of His Royal Highness, the Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense to France in 2018, which contributed to the expansion of cooperation between the two countries in various fields, ”the statement continued.
On the economic front, the press release indicates that “the two parties praised the strength of economic relations between the two countries and agreed on the importance of deepening the economic partnership, improving the participation of the private sector, experiences, develop human capacities and take advantage of the opportunities resulting from the Kingdom’s “Vision 2030” and the “France 2030” economic plan in various sectors of mutual interest.
Referring to regional and international issues, the statement said that the two parties underlined the importance of strengthening and consolidating Franco-Saudi cooperation and of coordinating their positions on issues of common interest in order to establish peace and security in the Middle East and the world at large. ; in addition to facing policies and interference that destabilize regional and international security and stability. “The two sides praised the importance of the Baghdad summit, which was held in August 2021, in order to strengthen stability in Iraq and encourage regional dialogue,” the statement said.
He added: “The two sides also underlined their determination to redouble joint efforts to confront terrorism and extremism in all its local, regional and international forms and fight against its financing. They agreed to strengthen their technical and operational cooperation in the fight against terrorism and organized crime.
At the Lebanese level, the press release indicates that “the two parties stressed the need for the Lebanese government to implement comprehensive reforms, in particular the commitment to implement the Taif Agreement responsible for national unity and civil peace in Lebanon, and that the said reforms include the sectors of finance, energy, the fight against corruption and border control. The two sides agreed to work with Lebanon to ensure the implementation of these measures. They stressed the need to limit weapons to legitimate state institutions, and that Lebanon should not be a platform for terrorist acts that destabilize the security and stability of the region, and a source of drug trafficking. They stressed the importance of strengthening the role of the Lebanese army in maintaining the security and stability of Lebanon.
Still in Lebanon, the press release added: “They agreed to set up a Franco-Saudi humanitarian aid mechanism within a framework guaranteeing total transparency and demonstrate their determination to find appropriate mechanisms to alleviate the suffering of the Lebanese people. , in cooperation with allied countries. They stressed the importance of maintaining Lebanon’s stability and respecting its sovereignty and unity, in accordance with Security Council resolutions (1559), (1701) and (1680) and relevant international resolutions.
