French authorities have opened a murder investigation following the discovery of the body of a 12-year-old girl under mysterious circumstances on a street in Paris. According to reports in the French media, the girl’s body was discovered tied up in a suitcase with the numbers 1 and 0 “placed” on the body.
According to official sources cited by BFMTV, a French media outlet, the figures were not made using a pen or by making cuts on the body.
The body of the young girl was discovered by a passer-by rue Hautpoul in the 19 of the French capital.e borough, just hours after being reported missing by her parents on Friday evening.
Preliminary inspections suggested she had her throat slit and her feet and hands had been bound.
Sources cited by BFMTV and CL Press, a news agency, also suggested the victim had sores on his throat.
An autopsy is said to have taken place yesterday to determine the cause of death, and the significance of the numbers on the body remain unknown.
The Paris prosecutor’s office has just opened an investigation for “murder of a minor under the age of 15”.
According to reports, the alarm was first raised on Friday afternoon, after the girl’s father raised concerns that she had not returned from school. At 5:30 p.m. that day, her mother went to the police station to report the disappearance.
They claimed the girl’s father – the caretaker of the building the family lives in – told police he saw his daughter with a woman in her 20s on CCTV.
A witness reportedly said that the same woman then asked for help to carry a trunk to a vehicle, which was said to be difficult to move.
The agents reportedly immediately became suspicious and discovered evidence in the basement of the building on rue Manin – which intersects rue Hautpoul – of a possible kidnapping.
Reports suggest the items found included tape and a box cutter. The tape was discovered on the victim’s head.
Police then reportedly received a call from someone around 11.30pm that evening who said they had found a trunk containing a body.
The woman who was seen on CCTV – who is believed to have been examined by investigators – is also believed to be in custody, having been arrested on Saturday morning just before 7.30am.
BFMTV said the woman was arrested in Bois-Colombes, a commune in the northwestern Hauts-de-Seine suburb of Paris – around a 34-minute drive from rue Hautpoul.
