the search for an armed murder suspect is underway

The search for an armed man suspected of murdering a woman continues this morning (July 20) near the village of Gréolières in the mountainous area behind Nice.

He is believed to be hiding somewhere in Laval, a small hamlet of seven houses about six to seven kilometers from Gréolières.

Residents of Laval, where the parents of the suspects live, have been ordered to stay inside except in emergencies and to avoid interfering in the search by the gendarmes.

The man, Marc Floris, 33, is considered armed and dangerous. He is Caucasian, measures approximately 1m75 with brown hair.

Police called for witnesses yesterday and are continuing their search for the man.

He is suspected of the murder of a 32-year-old woman, discovered by bullets on Sunday July 18 at her home in Plan-de-la-Tour in the Var department, neighboring the Alpes-Maritimes.

He is also wanted for having shot a gendarme who went to question him following the discovery of the body.

Authorities said they were able to identify her as a suspect from CCTV cameras and cell phone data, after the woman’s body was found at her doorstep by a delivery driver.

She had been hit by a 9mm bullet.

Floris “maintained or had maintained a relationship over a short period” with the young woman found dead Sunday, according to the deputy prosecutor of the Republic of Draguignan (Var).

More than 200 gendarmes on foot, helicopter search dogs and special police units are used in the search,

Anyone with any information is requested to contact the Alpes-Maritimes gendarmerie on 04 93 18 43 41.

Gréolières is a town in the mountains above Nice, and the mayor told a local radio station that Floris grew up there and worked for a civil engineering company on the coast.

“Everyone here knows him,” the mayor told local radio stations.
