INDIA Told friendly countries like the United States, Russia and France that the country’s defense equipment should be made in India now, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said on Saturday. He mentioned that India cannot remain dependent on other nations for its security needs.
Speaking at the annual convention of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Singh said, “Due to India’s stature, location and security challenges the country faces , we cannot remain dependent on other nations for defense technologies. We all understand this truth.
“Our ability and capability will not be prepared with the intention of attacking anyone, but our goal is to provide an appropriate response to any malicious action by an adversary.”
Singh said that “most of the countries of the world are friends of India” and mentioned that recently senior delegates from the United States, Russia and, a day ago, the French Minister of Defense s ‘were returned. “I have told all friendly nations that with India’s security in mind, we now want to manufacture all defense equipment in India.”
Commenting on the challenges posed by the country’s western and northern neighbors, Pakistan and China respectively, Singh said, “God has given us neighbors who are not happy with India’s prosperity.
Speaking of the government‘s push for the national defense manufacturing industry, Singh said, “We are asking the world to come and do India, do for India and do for the world.” Several international defense companies want to come and manufacture their products in India, he said, adding that their arrival would create a defense ecosystem in the country.
Mentioning the positive indigenization list, according to which more than 200 systems will not be allowed to be imported, Singh said it will exceed 1,000 within a decade. “Bearing in mind the potential of the defense and aerospace industries, the government has made reforms to several policies to encourage indigenization, development and design. “
The defense and aerospace sector is worth around Rs 85,000 crore, which Singh says will earn Rs 1 lakh crore in 2022. He said he wanted the sector to be worth lakh 5 crore of Rs by 2047. The government’s vision is to make India a global defense manufacturing center, he said.
He also said the government wants the country’s defense exports to reach Rs 35,000 crore by 2024-2025, and the country will become a net exporter of defense systems.
