Muscat – It is with great sadness that the French Embassy in Oman announces the death of Renaud Salins, who was French Ambassador to Oman from September 2017 to August 2021. He passed away on April 6.
A great diplomat and writer, he deeply loved this region of the world and particularly Oman, where he had many friends. Through his intelligence, generosity and creativity, he greatly contributed to strengthening the ties between the two countries. Salins was considered one of France‘s finest diplomats, with significant expertise on Iran, where he served twice.
He was also a recognized writer, and was finalizing his second book, written in Muscat, which will be released later.
As French Ambassador to Oman, Salins was instrumental in advancing defense cooperation with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, trade and investment cooperation and supporting the ‘Oman French Friendship Association. He also greatly contributed to the cultural life of Muscat by organizing numerous concerts, gastronomic evenings and by establishing the French Week.
His contribution was publicly recognized by HE Sayyid Badr al Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Oman, who paid tribute to him in a recent Tweet.
